Our approach
Our client’s brief centred on maximising this home's potential by removing cellular living arrangements that restricted social interaction and family life. At the same time, the family required dedicated workspaces that could function independently without encroaching on everyday living. Through the considered use of concealed doors, innovative glazing solutions and bespoke joinery, the design successfully balances these competing demands.
The result is a library and office space that seamlessly adapts between work and family life. Featuring two concealed connections, the space can remain private and focused while maintaining a strong relationship with both the home and garden. Sliding pocket glazing opens the room to the surrounding landscape, allowing the family to enjoy the benefits of their garden space. Meanwhile, a discreet door connecting to the family living area creates a transition between work and home or an extension to a family library space.
The main living area continues this theme of connection and light. Full-height glazing brings daylight deep into the interior, while carefully positioned vertical brick piers introduce rhythm, balance and scale to the broad extension. A widened entrance hall, complemented by additional glazing, draws views of the garden into the heart of the home and strengthens the connection between old and new.
Bespoke cabinetry throughout further reinforces the project's playful nature, with integrated storage and utility areas concealed behind finely crafted panelling. Soft, natural tones create a calm and timeless backdrop, contrasting beautifully with the home's unexpected moments of discovery and delight.
